Curriculum Overview

General Art Programme (GAP)The GAP modules focus on Visual Literacy and Visual Communication, which equip Rafflesians with a set of skills to understand and analyse the contextual, cultural, ethical, aesthetic, intellectual, and technical components involved in the production and use of visual materials. A visually literate student is both a critical consumer of visual media and a competent contributor to a body of shared knowledge and culture.

Gap Day (Lower Secondary)Our Gap Day programmes exposure students to the role of the artist in society by examining how their work is being affected by the pandemic. Y2 students get to experiment with large scale environmental tape art in their classroom block, in a collaborative module with the English & Literature department.

It aims to nurture their creativity, imagination and art criticism abilities. Students will develop the confidence, maturity and skills necessary to function as young artists.

The syllabus for RI-AEP follows the Raffles Schools’ Art Programme framework of “Art and Me, Art and the Community and Art and the World” in delivering modules in the three main areas of Coursework, Studio Practice and the Study of Visual Arts. Students are expected to demonstrate competences in each of these areas which are assessed across all levels. Through the programme, students will be given opportunities to learn from practicing artists as well as participate in students’ art exhibitions, with their work being showcased to the school community as well as to the public.
